Wisdom Teeth Removal + What I Did After Surgery 😁

From my knowledge, wisdom teeth removal can be quite a major surgery for some. In the early years of highschool I can remember seeing those photos of friends back home in Washington recovering with huge, chipmunk-like swollen cheeks, and even in more recent years I've seen a few friends just now getting them removed. I just got mine removed at the end of July (finally!) after they'd been bugging me since I was about 20 or 21 (so 7-8 years). I guess I was waiting for the right dentist and the right coverage (from God 😇 ) so huge, huge thank you to ComfortDental in Lakewood, Colorado. No pictures to share here (sorry!) but I was surprised at how well my surgery went but that it was also a difficult experience for me at the same time. As soon as I went in for the surgery I was put under with an IV, and I don't remember much after that (except small flashes: my surgeon and dental assistant showing me my wisdom teeth removed!) and then heading to the car.

Being that I had one wisdom that was sitting upright and one that was completely on its side, one side of my face experienced more trauma then the other. The left side was most sensitive, while the other barely showed signs of surgery afterward. Both were (and still are) tender, but only one has had visible effects. (You see the reasoning for no pictures). 😞

On the day of my surgery I got through the procedure with about as much ease as anyone would, but once I got home it was a different story. What didn't go wrong?! I threw up from getting up to walk, I threw up from the pain meds, food was impossible (nearly starved), I nearly drowned in drool and blood (--Not to be totally gross here but I wanted to give it to you straight), my dog thought I was totally dying and that was it, and so on. 2 months later it was one of the best decisions that I've ever made. (My mouth feels like it's had a transplant! 💁‍♀️) and I very much feel a huge weight lifted inside my mouth, without the irritated teeth in the back, the breath issues (oh yeah), and the extra extra brushing before I found the right place for my surgery. I kept a hot towel on both sides of my face as often as possible like what was suggested, and I rinsed with the rinse given to me by my surgeon (and Listerine later on, being that those prescribed rinses dont have the greatest taste). Pho was the first meal that I could eat out 🍲 and boy did it taste good after mashed potatoes and mashed potatoes only day in and day out. 🤢❌🥔

Today the surgical areas are still a little hollow, but I'm done with having to rinse to prevent food from getting stuck and my mouth feels absolutely amazing. You wouldn't think that that procedure would leave you feeling like a new person but I totally get it now! I'm a believer. 😁

If you haven't got wisdom teeth, lucky you! But if you do, don't be afraid to get the surgery done, and make sure to follow all of the instructions carefully that you're given. Your mouth won't regret it + (Go for the pho when you're done, too). ✌
