National Ice Cream Day

I just wanted to pop on here really quickly and blog about the cutest day. National Ice Cream Day was last Sunday and I took Uila to Chuck & Don's, her absolute favorite that we just love and where she gets her NutriSource food. After the groomers (Thanks PetSmart Sheridan 👋) we stopped by and she got, wait for it... Bacon and Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Pumpkin Kran Pow Crunchy-O treats on top.

I damn near ate some myself, soooo cute! This is why we love this store and its branch in 4 states. Uila got to donate $3 for her scoop and she just ate it up! We also got her another braid, with her buy one get one free coupons that come in the mail. #friendofchuck ✅ Those seem to be loved as well and she gobbles them right up! I've been trying to watch her weight because she doesn't exercise as much as she used to. But, she's also been growing so she's been bound to gain some weight. Can't wait for the day when we can find her a spot for her to just run! (Fenced in of course). Le sigh

More videos from National Ice Cream Day! 🐶

#PupsnCups

Hope you got a chance to enjoy as well and are staying cool out there! ☉

🤳

I rarely change my cellphone background (it usually stays the same all year, or for at least 6 months), and this year I've been feeling a little... cold. My background since last Christmas on both my cellphone and tablet has been a live snowfalling wallpaper from KISOFT (available for Android and iOS) complete with a secluded cottage and deer looking on. Le sigh. But, changing up your phone's appearance through the year does more for your mentality than you're always aware of. Here are a few options that have stood out to me in my smartphone journey:

Changing the Way We Think About Food

Nutritionist and frequent goop contributor Shira Lenchewski has built a robust business in Los Angeles helping women blaze a trail to healthy eating, who don’t have time to shop for food, much less craft it into an Instagram-worthy dinner. She just gets it—that the best intentions don’t always align with the results we all crave, and that vowing to eat better doesn’t always match up with what the delivery guy drops by night after night. Below, she explains how to forge new pathways into the brain to change the way we think about food—and about our own ability to eat better.

Going Mind-to-Table

I’m going to come right out and say it: The way we’ve been thinking about New Year’s wellness resolutions is deeply flawed. Like clockwork, every January we vow to subsist on salad and protein, to steer clear of sugar and alcohol, and to exercise like maniacs.
But what we’re missing is the real groundwork to make lasting, sustainable changes; to execute new behaviors that become habits; and to keep honoring them after that tropical vacation or much-anticipated social event. I think about this a lot because I’m in the business of helping people make healthy changes for the right reasons. Changes that really stick because, over time, the behaviors take less effort to execute. Eventually, it feels pretty good to keep them up.
Researchers have examined the success rates of New Year’s resolutions and found that people tend to crush it in January, but start dropping off after that. By the next holiday season, we tend to be right back where we started…sometimes a step or two behind. We scold ourselves for lacking self-control, and then, as if the prior year was a fluke, we recommit to the same resolutions all over again.
How can so many of us be so tremendously motivated to lose weight but not follow through? (Hint: It’s not because we’re the worst.) I’d argue we’re actually stacking the odds against ourselves because you can’t change your weight or your lifestyle until you change your mindset.

Knowing What You Need to do Is Not Enough

I realized something career-altering early on in my practice: Most of my clients could immediately rattle off all the things they ought to be doing—

Giving Back

📷 E Sawyer Photography

I think everyone can have a cause to support. I truly believe that there is a cause out there for each and everyone to give back to, whether it be in a big or small way. I've been lucky to find so many perfect ones for me while Instagram surfing in the last year or so since I moved to Colorado. There are many, many different ways to get involved, but my personal preference has been in the way of shopping or wearing my way to giving back, or supporting a cause. Give me clothes, homeware and stuff for my Teuila all day. 🕶 Here's a short list of some of the causes that I've come across in the past year or so that I support. These are my favorites!

¤  OSO ¤

📷 @thecausebar | This is Kosi!

OSO I just learned about today! (#FridayFeels) Look at that adorable teddy bear. 🧸 OSO is a teddy bear making and selling business run by women living in Zone 3 of Guatemala City. They enable the women of the community to make these cuddly bears and sell them for $20... 2x their community's average family income. Each bear's tag comes with the name of the artisan that made it. 💝

¤ Imani Collective ¤

@imanicollective

Imani Collective is a home decor line based in Mombasa, Kenya and Dallas. Everything is handmade by over 70 empowered women and your purchase supports them. I absolutely love their message!

Teuila has Imani's cloud pillow (which is half off right now!) and she absolutely loves it. 🐶

¤ Nuria Beauty ¤

@nuriabeauty

Nuria Beauty is a vegan and cruelty free made skincare line that supports girl's education. You can read all about Nuria's founder and their mission like I did here. Nuria supports ShestheFirst, which sponsors girls around the world who are the first in their family to graduate highschool. Love it! 🌻

¤ Bayou With Love ¤

@bayouwithlove

Bayou With Love is actress Nikki Reed's unique jewelry line that is made sustainable and socially conscious from recycled gold found in technology (Dell computers to be exact). What an absolute dream 😍 and what a message for the environment! 🌏

¤ The Citizenry ¤

@the_citizenry

The Citizenry is an all artisan made imported home goods line based in New York City that offers craftsmanship from all over the world to decorate your home with. They also support these artisans with ways to give back, seen on their website. Who doesn't want a Mercado basket from Mexico or a gorgeous mirror from Chile in their home? 🏠

¤ Hark + Hammer ¤

@harkandhammer

Hark + Hammer sell all silk prints that are good to the earth. All of their clothes are made with minimal environmental impact (cut and sewn in limited editions in Los Angeles) which I've been eyeing for a while. I'm a lover of some soft silk, and those colorful prints 😍

¤ PI Yoga Pants ¤

@piyogapants

I haven't had the chance to take up yoga but I definitely plan to (I'm thinking Kundalini, or one other that I've read about), and these pants look so comfy! PI proudly donate 10% of their net profits toward sea turtle conservation. 🐢

¤ Yoobi ¤

@yoobi

Yoobi's school supplies have been so helpful to me with starting my degree. You buy, yoobi gives! 📚 Their school and office supplies are available at Target right now.

¤ Vegan/cruelty free ¤

Buying vegan or cruelty free is a way to give to nature and to animals that's so easy to do. There's also a big community of Americans out there that embrace these causes and live their lives daily supporting them. Buying a vegan item doesn't mean that you have to convert your entire lifestyle to vegan. There are tons of brands that you can buy your specific items from to help spread the cruelty free or vegan message in some way. 🌿🐰 Here are just a few of my favorite brands out there!

° FriLuk °

@friluk_ltd

This brand is a great starting place for finding vegan items to add to your closet. They're all about the planet and they've got all the info! 👓

@handmadebeauty_db

Non-toxic and cruelty free nail polish that is so cute!
Their shades are all so vibrant and gorgeous. 💅

@giovannicosmetics

Giovanni have over 100 vegan-friendly products and it's all of course cruelty free. 🐰 Their shampoos really do make your hair so happy. I use the Avacado & Olive Oil shampoo and the Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil conditioner from time to time and it's like hair food. 💖 (Thanks WholeFoods!)

@leland_francis_

Leland Francis is a vegan and cruelty free skincare line from Australia that followed me and that looks so hydrating! They have a Melting Balm that triples as a cleanser, mask and overnight that looks awesome. 🧖‍♀️

I hope to give back in as many ways as I possibly can in my life. Not only does it give you a sense of purpose but it keeps you grounded in service. Sometimes it's so easy to be in your own little bubble of peace and to view the world in a one dimensional way. But being socially conscious is the new thing! 😎

Are you trying to find a way to give back, but aren't sure where to start?

Restaurant Review: Kona Grill Cherry Creek 🥢

Denver has had the most quiet early summer days this year. Each day is sunny but then we'll get a little rainfall. This week I stopped at Cherry Creek's Kona Grill for sushi and a rainpour happened, right on the patio. The kids at the family table sitting to my right got under their table. Rainpour aside, the setting was very relaxing and the food was so good. Not to mention the margarita. 🍹

The setting is blue. Like you're walking into a charming new world of aqua that invites you right in. Waterfall fixtures throughout make you feel like you, along with everything and everyone around you are retaining pure moisture. 🔷️🔷️
@konagrill
The drink menu is so cute that I couldn't choose. My eyes first went for the fruity Red Sangria, which has the likes of hibiscus, lychee, raspberry, orange and even lime. But after consulting with my waitress, A.J., I settled on the best frozen margarita that I've had since I lived in LA (Yum!). Small sips had me feeling great before my edamame first and then sushi promptly arrived.

I had the classic California Roll and the creative crawfish tempura choice called voodoo that Kona offers. So yummy! Expertly made by the restaurant's sushi chefs who were so brilliantly nice. I'm not always big on raw fish, but Kona's selection and flawless presentation made my tummy feel right at home on the west coast. With finger food like edamame on the side the meal hit just the right spot in a familiar rainpour setting. (I moved to a table inside to avoid the drops) and felt just as comfy as I did on the breezy, covered patio. 💧

Expensive fishies in blue tanks, large large screens and charming company all around made it a perfect sit in for some Cherry Creek dining. The view of the trendy city with the shopping center in close proximity are pluses as well. Highly recommend giving Kona Grill a drop in if you're in the Cherry Creek area. 🥢

View their menu and make reservations at their website. 🍶
