"Jerry’s Bar on West Fifty-fourth Street, across from the old Ziegfeld Theatre, was one of Jimmy’s favorite New York hangouts. Don’t assume he’s passed out because he’s had too much beer. Jimmy was an insomniac – the worst I’ve ever met – so at odd times and odd places he would simply pass out, for a few minutes or a few hours, then wake up and set out again. He lived like a stray animal; in fact, come to think of it, he was a stray animal. He had a couple of favorite spots on the East Coat, and two or three more on the West Coast."

And if I had the time to solve the mystery of your crime you know I would
If I had to shape the form of your mechanical design you know I could
Well I've been up and down the lanes to lose the memory
Of your name and sword taken from the stone
Put in the lake but I have messed up my heart
And I have nothing more than bones to break
--
But I said
I do believe
In all the endless roads you weave
You may climb
You may fall
You could spend your lifetime on the wall
I don't mind
--
If I had the hand to take the blood out of the sand to make it dry
And if I knew the birth and all the secrets of the earth I won't ask why
Well I've been in and out of windows just
To try to find a doorway
I've broken off the mud that is weight upon my shoes but I've
Messed up my heart and I have nothing more than time to lose
--
But I said
I do believe
In all the endless roads you weave
You may climb
You may fall
You could spend your lifetime on the wall
I don't mind
If I had to shape the form of your mechanical design you know I could
